The festive season is upon us and this tends to be one of the most exciting times of year for little ones. They break up from school and many will join in celebrations, involving gifts, time with loved ones and all sorts of fun activities. Of course, with so much time off school, you may be wondering what you can do to keep them occupied and as happy as possible. Here are some suggestions that might tick their boxes!
Days Out
Now is a great time to get involved with days out. There are all sorts of fun things to do, as long as you’re willing to look around and find them. From fun activities like soft play from Snakes and Ladders to themed days out like Santa’s Grotto, Winter Wonderland events, light switch ons and more. Look for what’s available in your local area and try to book as far in advance as possible. This will ensure that you get tickets before they sell out. Avoid risking turning up at events without tickets – unless they are specifically pay at the venue. This can prevent disappointment if there’s high demand.
Arts and Crafts
This is a great season for arts and crafts too. If you’re looking for a fun activity that your kid can enjoy from the comfort of your own home, this is the option for you. Plus, it’s relatively low cost once you have a bunch of materials ready and at your disposal. There are so many festive projects you can work on together. From paper snowflakes to creating snowmen from cotton wool, drawing on the front of Christmas cards and more. Invest in plenty of pipe cleaners, coloured card, glue, glitter, crayons, pens and more and the world will be your little one’s oyster.
Baking
Baking is another fun activity. Of course, you’ll need to make sure that you’re supervising your little one at all times. Allow them to take care of the fun parts, like hand mixing and decorating. You can take care of the harder parts, such as operating the oven, taking trays in and out and preventing anyone from touching hot pans and trays. Invest in green and red icing, or make melting snowman cookies. There are all sorts of festive sprinkles you can choose from.
Visit Santa
Are you interested in taking your kid to see Santa? This is a great experience for many little ones. They get to tell him what they’re wishing for this year and often get to walk away with a small gift. Find a grotto nearby and check whether you need to book in advance or if you can turn up on the day. Be prepared to queue, as Santa can be quite popular at this time of year.
Hopefully, some of the advice and suggestions above should help you to pack your little one’s festive break with fun, joy and cheer! It should definitely keep them occupied for some time!
